Background
Anthrologica is a research based organisation specialising in applied anthropology in global health. Anthrologica was established to develop appropriate and sustainable processes for improving health and healthcare especially in resource scarce settings. Our specific expertise lies in incorporating the needs and perceptions of intended beneficiaries into healthcare policy and programming to ensure that it is contextually relevant and that opportunities for improving health are maximised. Anthrologica works cross sector within the healthcare structures of the countries in which we operate, often in collaboration with local partners. Overview of the role
We are seeking to recruit a Research Associate to work as a member of the core Anthrologica team. The position is part time with flexible working patterns, from 1 January to 31 December 2013, with the potential to renew. The Research Associate will be required to take the lead on a number of projects, designing the research methodology, undertaking fieldwork, analysis of data, presentation of results and substantive report writing. They will support the Director and other Anthrologica team members, and may be required to bid for new contracts, including proposal / grant writing.

Selection criteria:
Essential
Postgraduate qualification in anthropology, public health or related social science
Proven experience designing and using qualitative research methods
Research specialisation in health / healthcare in developing contexts
Prior experience conducting fieldwork in Africa and/or other challenging environments
Ability to show initiative and work effectively both independently and as part of a culturally diverse team
Ability to be flexible and undertake travel at relatively short notice
Excellent oral and written communication skills (fluent English essential)

Desirable
A doctorate in medical anthropology or relevant discipline
Prior experience of leading consultancy work, including monitoring and evaluation
Familiarity with quantitative research methods
A track record of (or clear potential for) publication in international peer reviewed journals
Ability to work in French
